The Lasallian Community Education Services is a multi faceted program that serves the urban slum and shanty communities in Colombo North and the rural poor of Sri Lanka. Their numerous programs include education programs for men, women, youth, and children. They also include home based child care, mother and child care nutrition programs, health education, environmental hygiene, self-employment, and activities that promote ethnic and religious harmony. The pre-school program, at three locations, includes the daily feeding of the pre-school children. The children include Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians. The program includes the celebrations of Divali (Hindu), Ramaddan (Muslim), Vesak (Buddhist), and Christmas (Christian). Religious and racial harmony are taught and encouraged.
