Clarendon

Clarendon is a home in Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka, for underprivileged children,
mostly destitute orphans. Some of the residents have
been victims of the civil unrest of some years back and the war in the North, still
bearing the scars of having witnessed the brutal murders of their parents and
siblings. More recently, others have been children from the streets and slums, as well as orphans. The home provides a sanctuary for these youngsters, irrespective of
race, religion and other differences, shielding them from the certain fate of
abuse and exploitation that they most likely would have succumbed to. The Home attends to all of their needs such as food, clothing, health care and
schooling.

The home has been operational since 1989 with the support of the Clarendon Foundation.
The use of the house and the property on which the home operates has
been made possible through a donation from one of our benefactors.
The Home is currently being run by the Sisters of Mary Immaculate,
formerly from an order of Italian nuns, new in Sri Lanka, who are
responsible for the care and welfare of the children. The Home currently
provides refuge to 63 children, aged eight months to 18 years,
as we continue to accept more children, providing for their complete
care and support. The Home is entirely funded through the Clarendon
Foundation.
Holy Family nuns, providing refuge to 30 to 33 children at a time,
previously administered the home. Thirty children who were residing
in the home at the time were placed in boarding schools in communities
throughout the island. We continue to fund all of the needs of 7
of these children each month, including boarding fees, clothing
and other needs. The other children from the program have completed
their studies and have moved on to seek employment and family life
through marriage. We will continue to support these children until
they each complete their education. We have cared for these children
since their formative years (in some cases for over 10 years). We
will continue to provide for her support and education until completion.
Please see more details on each of the children in the section titled
“Meet Our Children”.
