Working Toward a Brighter Future for the Children in Sri Lanka
The Arrupe Child Development Center (formerly Children’s Home) is in Poovarasankulam (on the Chettikulam Road, North-West of Vavuniya) in a remote rural jungle area. This Home has been supported by the Clarendon Foundation for a decade.
This Home is now under the probation and court system and provides refuge to 25 young girls, five to 18 years of age. The girls are brought to this Center through the courts as a result of abusive situations or unsatisfactory family circumstances such as alcoholic or drug addicted parents or incarcerated parents. This home provides complete care and education as well as a full array of developmental activities. We have also provided computers for the children’s use and development. Children are trained in computer applications as well as sewing and other crafts, in addition to a traditional education. We provide for their complete support
