The SOS Children’s Village in Piliyandala consists of a “village” with 16 cottages (houses). Each house is home to a ‘mother’ and several children of varying ages, raised as siblings and as a ‘family’. The children residing in the ‘village’ do not have their own parents to care for them. The ‘family’ in each home functions as a family would and should. The ‘mother’ cares for, nurtures and develops the children. Each home is assisted by other adult ‘aunts’

The 16 houses in the village have over 100 children. Food is prepared in the village. The Clarendon Foundation funds the preparation and delivery of all of the meals for all of the children in the village.
